About the NXP IP Team The NXP Intellectual Property team operates as a globally integrated, business-driven IP organization with offices across Europe, the United States, and China. The team provides comprehensive support to NXP’s businesses and research and development groups on all aspects concerning Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Combining extensive technical and legal proficiency with an emphasis on collaboration, speed, efficiency, and pragmatic solutions, the IP Team serves as a trusted advisor to R&D, business units, and senior management worldwide. Its mission is to generate, protect, and strategically leverage intellectual property to foster innovation, manage risk, and advance long-term business value within a dynamic technology landscape.

About the IP/Patent Creation & Counseling Team In addition to developing and managing value-driven IP and patent portfolios, the IP Counseling team integrates strategic planning with effective execution. The IP Counseling team closely collaborates with NXP’s R&D and business groups to structure and negotiate essential agreements focusing on NXP’s development activities in Europe and provide support for complex IP disputes and defense matters. These efforts foster innovation while safeguarding NXP’s operational flexibility and competitive advantage.

For strengthening the IP Counseling Team for supporting NXP’s business and R&D teams we are looking for an IP/Patent Counsel located in Hamburg, one of the main locations of NXP business and R&D operations.

Your main Responsibilities (IP Counseling):

IP Legal support for European and German subsidy and funding programs, including (A) working closely with NXP’s subsidy and funding teams and advising on IP matters, (B) providing contracting work for NDA, MoU, Grant Agreement, Project Cooperation Agreement, including drafting contract terms and negotiating with other partners, and (C) IP generation monitoring within such projects.

IP Legal support for contracting matters, including drafting and negotiating of Nondisclosure Agreements, development and collaboration agreements with universities and other cooperation partners

Supporting IP Defense Matters in Europe, including supporting patent and technology licensing and litigation activities in Europe in close cooperation with in-house colleagues and/or outside counsel

Providing DayToDay IP Counseling, including partnering with and advising NXP Business, R&D and CTO teams on all matters concerning intellectual property

Your secondary Responsibilities (IP Creation):

Drafting Patent Applications for global protection

Prosecuting European (EP) patent applications

Contributing to the selection of Inventions for patent protection

Managing outside counsel drafting and prosecuting applications in EP and elsewhere

Providing advice to inventors

Your Experience:

You have graduated in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Materials science, with a good knowledge of electronics/semiconductors

You are a fully or partial qualified European and/or German Patent Attorney

You either have worked in an industrial IP department or a law firm

Experience in drafting contracts with the focus of development, and intellectual property terms and conditions.

Experience in European and German subsidy and funding programs is a plus, but not essential

Your Profile:

You are a self-starter with proven ability to organize your own work with a high level of autonomy and have excellent time-management skills, and are comfortable as both client and service-provider

You have solid written and verbal communication skills both in German and in the corporate language of English (skills in French would be a plus)

You are comfortable working in interdisciplinary global teams encompassing a broad range of cultural norms

You are open-minded with the ability to collaborate, adapt and thrive in a fast-paced multinational corporate environment
