How we classify remote work

We scan the complete text of every job posting — not just the title — for the working arrangement it describes: fully remote where the listing states remote work outright, home office where it offers working from home without calling the role remote, and hybrid where it describes a split between home and office. Detection is keyword-based and refreshed daily, and it reads what the posting says — employers word these things loosely, so confirm the actual arrangement in the listing (or at interview) before you count on it.

*Median over stated salaries and, where a listing names none, our AI estimate.

What remote work actually looks like in Germany

Remote work in Germany is common but rarely absolute. Most listings that mention working from home describe a hybrid arrangement — a fixed number of office days per week — rather than a fully distributed role. We read each listing's text and separate the three cases so you can filter for the one you actually want.

Fully remote roles cluster in software, data and DevOps, and are most common at companies that already hire internationally. Traditional Mittelstand engineering — machinery, automotive, medical devices — is largely on-site by nature, so remote openings there are the exception and usually sit in software or simulation teams.

One practical caveat: a German employment contract normally requires you to be resident and tax-registered in Germany, even when the role is fully remote. "Remote within Germany" and "remote from anywhere" are different offers, and listings are often vague about which they mean — worth confirming before you apply.

Remote work in Germany — FAQ

Are there fully remote jobs in Germany?

Yes, though they are a minority of remote-friendly listings. Most postings that mention home office describe a hybrid split. We label each role as fully remote, home office or hybrid based on the wording of the listing itself, so you can see the difference before applying.

Can I work remotely in Germany without speaking German?

Often yes in software, data and infrastructure roles, particularly at companies that hire internationally. We flag each listing's working language separately from its remote arrangement — the two don't always go together, and a remote role can still be a German-language team.

Do remote jobs in Germany sponsor visas?

Some do. Visa sponsorship depends on the salary and the occupation, not on whether the role is remote — roles paying above the EU Blue Card threshold (€50,700 in 2026, or €45,934.20 for shortage occupations such as software engineering) are the usual route. We flag roles whose stated or estimated salary clears that bar; treat it as an estimate, not legal advice.

Can I live outside Germany and work for a German company?

Usually not on a standard German employment contract, which generally assumes German residency and tax registration. Some employers hire cross-border through an employer-of-record, but listings rarely say so explicitly. If you plan to live elsewhere, confirm it with the employer before applying.

How current are these listings?

The corpus refreshes daily. Roles that disappear from their source are marked expired and drop off the page, so the count reflects what was live at the last run.
